It all started when we saw how much waste there is in the used book industry.
Each year, millions of pounds of books end up being debinded and pulped at paper mills to be turned into cardboard boxes and napkins.
After nearly a decade in the industry, we decided there has to be a better way. These are good readable books that could have a second or third life in another reader's hands. 50/50 bookstore is a response to this issue.
50/50 bookstore has a revolving inventory of over 5,000 books available for the public to take home and enjoy.
50/50 is a pay-what-you-can community bookstore.
A pay what you can model means that all who want books, can have books regardless of whether they can afford it or not.
50/50 is more than a bookstore.
One of the ways we show love for our community is through local partnerships. We partner with different organizations doing good in our community year-round and donate 50% of our proceeds to help fund their programs. See our Featured Partner page for more information about this program.
At the heart of it, we believe in bringing books and people closer together.
In December 2017, we launched our crowdfunding campaign through Kickstarter to raise funds to complete the construction of the bookstore. In January 2018, thanks to the support of our 70 backers, we successfully raised our goal of $9,000.
We are now officially open as of February 2018 in the Northeast Park hill neighborhood in Denver.
We hope to see you soon.
